a-COSIMETER (TLD) DATA 4
ei~
Enclosed are three sets of TLD data collected around the Three Mile Island facility. TLD's measure l
the direct radiation at the locaticr. in the environ-3 ment where they are placed.
It is routine to have TLG's placed at key locations surrounding all l
cperat Mg power reactors. They measure both natural g
background radiation plus any additional radiation
{
contributed by thd facility.
TLD's are normally
?
exchanged on a quarterly basis.
In the Three Mile Island case, the radiation exposure measured by l
the TLD's was primarily a result of passing " clouds" l
of radioactive gases released from the facility.
1 The first set of data represents the total exposure
~
(background plus that frcm the incident) from the beginning of the calendar quarter until 3/29/79.
These data are frcm licenses ;:osted TLD's.
The f
next two sets of TLD data represe.
exposure l
periods of 24-48 hours.
One set is iicensee data j
and one set is flRC data.

PS:
BRH-FDA posted 250 TLD's. in the plant environs
[..
to a distance of 20 miles from the site.
These were-g--.,J posted on 3/31 and 4/1 and will remain posted for
!!^k$i several weeks.
