Call from Kennedy Subcommittee n's receivec a call from Cave Moulton on che Kennedy Succommittee asking to speak with an exper: on decommissioning.
He was put in contact with Mr. George Calkins in :ne Fuel Process Systems 5:ancards Branch, Office of Standards Cevelopment.
Mr. Calkins talked with Jim Cubie on Kennedy's staff.
He advised m: that Cubie was interested principal'iy in the cost of decommissioning inree tiile Island.
He cited a Post sto:y this morning sugge: ting that the plant may be so badly contaminated that it would have to be decommissioned.
Calkins advised Cubie that he had no figures on the cost of '.
cleaning up the Three Mile Island plant.
He provided some figures on the decom.r.issioning of a typical poaer plant after years of s:rvice."'ne advised th-* we nave planned a study that will deal with the costs involved in decommissioning a nuclecr plant follesing an accident but that this study will not be ready for s everal years.
