At the request of Steve Kent of Congressional Affairs I tried to call David Coulton (224-2993) of Sanator 7:nnedy's staff to cnsuer some cuestions on deco missioning.
I ended up talking to Jim Cubte instead.
He wanted to kno:1 d. hat it could cost to decomission Threc l'ile Island fluclear Station L'a. 2.
I replied that I could not answer his cuestion hecause our technical studies had dealt with the plants that had had a rar. al cperating lifetire and act with those involved in accidents.
I also indicated that we had tentatively planned to look at accident cases some tine in the fature.
Ha then asked for the estimated costs for deccmissioning a plant that had not experienccd cn accident.
I told him that Battelle-P.',L in iiibl:C/CR-0120 estimated about $'.0 nillion for imediate dismantlement o f a l a r ge P:,'R.
Then h: asked about entomiment, and I responded that a very preliainary estimate froa Sattelle was aLout S34 tillion, plus any costs that usuld be associated with surycillcnce of the entombed structure.
