12MORJ3DUM FOR:
Chairman Hendrie FROM:
Harold R.
Denton, Director, Office of :;uclear Reactor Regulation J
SU3 JECT:
MEMORA:"DUM OF APP?lCIATIC:1 - UCRIS F. ::03S3URG Ie=ediately af ter the Friday morning call on March 30, 1979 fren you, I asked Doris if she uculd be.:.lling to accenpany me here to Three Mile Island.
She it=ediately said yes and within hours ua vere airborne frca the :aval Hospital helicopter pad.
During those first fe days, Doric alone attended to all the details being generated by the innunerabia conversations, cae tings, phone calls, and personnal problems. '.. nil a that period is mostly a blur, one clear cenory is Doris handing me the phone in Mrs. Deuey's living roca 2nd saying "the President is on th a '.ine".
She converted our bare trailer, which ue obtained on Saturday, in to a functional office with a telephene, telecopier, xeron copier, files, and typewriter. We began each day before 7:00 AM and ended nany da.s af ter midnight including an occasica when she accc=panied me on a late night briefing of Gov. Thornburg. While I received press :.'ttentica for cy calnness, she uas truly unflappable. Her demeanor under pressure and good spirits sustained us.
Simply stated, she vas superlative, and is as responsible as any of us for the accceplishments of the 2;P.C staff.
