MECH 3NICAL ENGINEERING BRANCH DIVISION OF SYSTEMS SAFETY THREE MILE ISLAND tJNIT 2 1.

Indicate what supportive tests have been performed to verify the torque calculated for the containment vent and purge system isolation valves which is reported in Amendment 59 (Sec. 9.4) of the FSAR.

2.

Also in Amendment 59 (Sec. 9.4) of the FSAR it is reported that valve component stress levels do not exceed the allowable stresses as specified in the "Draf t ASME Code for Pumps and Valves".

Since this draf t code is primarily concerned with pressure boundary integrity, indicate the criteria used for determining the adequacy of the non-pressure boundary components wh':ch are essential for proper valve closure and sealing.

3.

Alternatively, demonstrate that the valves will procerly seat and remain leak tight should no counter torque be available due to failure of the operator or its connecting linkage.
