[C - 3 2. 0 PERMIT ISSUED FOR SECOND NUCLEAR PCWER FLANT ON THREE MILE ISLAND IN PENNSYLVANIA A permit to build a second nuclear power unit at the Three Mile Island Nuclear Station in Londonderry Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, has been issued to Jersey Central Power a Light Company and Metropolitan Edison Company by the Atomic Energy Commission's Division of Reactor Licensing.

Metropolitan Edison and Jersey Central will cuild Unit 2 adjacent to Metropolitan Edison's Unit 1 now under construction on Three Mile Island near the east shore of the Susquehanna River above York Haven Dam, about 10 miles southeast of Harris-burg.

The facility will use a pressurized water reactor and will have an initial net electrical capacity of about 810,000 kilowatts and an ultimate capacity of about 920,000 kilowatts.

Metropolitan Edison will be responsible for the design, con-struction, operation and maintenance of the plant.

Burns &

Roe, Inc., is the architect-engineer and United Engineers and Constructors will construct the plant.

The nuclear steam supply system will be supplied by Babcock & Wilcox Company.

The cost to construct Unit 2, including the nuclear fuel, is estimated to be about $236.000,000.

According to the application, the earliest date for completion of the facil-ity is December 1, 1972; the latest, December 1, 1973.

Issuance of the permit follows reviews by the AEC Regu-latory Staff and the Commission's Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards and a public hearing by an Atcmic Safety and Lican-sing Soard.

The board conducted the hearing on Occober 6 in Middletown, Pennsylvania, and issued a decision on oc cber 31 authorizing issuance of the permit.

The permit and the board's decision are subject to review by the Commicsion's Atomic Safety and Licensing Appeal Scard and to any crder the Appeal Scard may make on or before December 15, 1969.
