SUBJECT:
DEGRADATION TO CORE MELT IN Tf1I-2 AliD POTENTIAL CONSEQUENCES The enclosed report provides our preliminary evaluations and their bases of meltdown analyses for the Three Itilt Island Plant (TMI-2).
These analyses cover the areas of (a) core nelt penetration, (b) hydrogen generation and potential for explosion, and (c) potential for steam explosion. We have attempted in the short tire available (3 days) to be as quantitative as possible.
In addition to performing a number of calculations, we have utilized /
extrapolated relevant infomation from previous analyses performed on LHFBRs (CRBRP and FFTF), the Floating Nuclear Plant (Fr1P), and recent calculations performed by Battelle Columbus Laboratories (BCL).
