SUMMARY
OF MEETING ON STEAM GENERATOR TUBE INSTRL' MENTATION Representatives of B&W, GPUSC, and Metropolitan Edison met with members of the NRC staff in Bethesda on October 5,1977, to describe the instru-mentation and test program proposed for a TMI-2 steam generator to help define the tube degredation problem identified in other B&W steam generators.
The prupase of the program is to provide infomation on structural and themodynamic response paramaters of Mce-trhough steam generators in the area where some facilities have experienced tube degredation. Specific objectives were identified and the instrumentation including accelerometers, strain gages, flow, and pressure devices, described and their locations indicated. Penetrations and flow orificing were also described.
It was stated that the results of the test program were expected to be useful in defining the B&W steam generator tube degredation problem, that the design of the modifications required would not affect the safety of the plant, and that it was intended to remove the instrumentation and cabling and conduit at the first reload.
NRC rep esentatives requested fomal submittal of the proposed program for our review, which the applicant agreed to do shortly. This submittal will include a description of the design, appropriate stress analyses, and QA/QC requirements.
