ITE MOTOR C0tiTROL CEt1TER VERTICAL BARRIERS (AITS F12148Hl)
We have reviewed the memorandum on the above suoject as well as the extensive documentation which was provided to you in the original response dated February 11, 1977 from Seyfrit to you (see enclosure).
The date of your request for assessing the gene"ic implications of the fire in the motor control center was December 10, 1976.
Our conclusion is that the licensee's position as outlined in ycur current memorandum is acceptable and satisfies the requirements placed on the licensee as a result of the tiovemcer 1976 fire. We also agree with the position that the existing vertical barriers which are constructed of a red, fiberglass impregnated with a polyster resin, known as TSF, are acceptable for use in the motor centrol centers.
Tests shcw that the material will support a flame for less than a minute during which time tne resins are censumed and then it will self-extinguish. Additionally, it is our understanding that the ITE motor control centers are used wnere there are redundant systems and they are further separated by walls.
Therefore, we disagree with the position that the vertical barriers must be replaced prior to fuel leading and consequently disagree that this should remain an Cutstanding Item.
