t The Jersey Central Power & Light Ccapany han announced its plans to install another nuclear power plant in Lacey Township. The building will be twice the size of the present plant, located west of Route 09 in the South portion of Lacey Township, on a site containing 800 or more acres and zoned industrial.

The desire of the Company ~to install the proposed plant in a rural :ene, closer to Barnegat Bay shore and closer to the mouth of Oyster Creek and porked River on the East side of Route 09 in the South-east portion of the Township, and also in the middle of approximately 1100

).

, homes is a radical change frca their originally stated plans.

The construction of this proposed industrial building on or near Barn-egat Day will be the first blight of this type, if permitted, on the Bay front from Bay Head to Tuckerton, consisting of 70 miles of bay shore.

The Company originally anncunced plans to use its industrial zoned 800

{

acras West of Route 09 (the present plant site) for additional power pro-ducing plants.

It did not purchase the additional acreage on the East side of Route 09 until some time later.

i The Plants, it is understood, will supply power to three or more states including a large portion of New Jersey.

If cost is one of the factors for the desire to switch the proposed location at this late date, installing the proposed plant in its original industrial zoned location should not be a burden to the Power Company because the Ccmpany vill be reimbursed by con-s sumers being supplied with pouar over a three state area.

However, if the Company is trying to locate as close as possibic to home sites so that fu-tore plants may be installed in cities or close to recreational areas, then it is tiac to stop this action.

The Power Company has not explained to the Public the dire accessity for the proposed location in a rural zonc or if the proximity to such a Inrge number of homes is safe for the home cu,er and their families.

Questions contcrning all of the above and others too num-erous to mention will not have a chance te he asked or answered if sudden action was to be taken by the Planning Board of Lacey Tnenship and the Town-ship Committee.

We do not feel that the reconing of rural zone to industrial zone in this case particularly should even be considered before all the people in the Tounship have had ampin opportunity to hear all the facts.

The length, size and depth under Bay of pipeline to Ocean, distance from shore (Long Beach Island State Pcrk) to outfall, temperature of water at outfall in Ocean, radioactive residue or any other warte material trans-ported by the proposed pipe, should be disclosed at this time.

If the very valuable water front laad purchased by the Pouer Company cast of F. cute 7.; not u::d ic-.

the trepored plant site it conh. be sold and mir.ht help the Pcver Cc7peny to rcJuce their overall cost and might even result in a louer rate of increase than 13L nor being sought.
