Dear Sir,
The purpose of this letter is to obtain written confirmation of the infor:sation you were kind enough to supply during a phone call on the afternoon of 16 lbyember.
It is our understanding that the 727-200 aircraft is capable of taking off at 207,500 pcunds only when suitably modified for the addition of optional fuselage fuel tanks, and trat no aircraft with these modifications has been acquired by a U.S. air carrier.
Our reasco for raquesting this conff,ution is to confirm inde-pendently statements by Trens World airlires that their 727 flights between Chicago and Harrisburg, PA, do rnt weigh over 200,000 pounds as they pass the nuclear power plants at Three Mile Island, PA.
Proof to this effect, cochined with an engineering analysin showing these plants to be capable of withstanding collision by a 200,000 pound aircraft at 200 knots, will be submitted as evidence to the Atomic Safety and Licensing Appeal Board at their hearing of the Operating License for Three Mile Island Nuclear Station, unit No. 2, during the first week in C%r.
