1979 Mr. Jack Wyatt, President Louisiana Power E, Light. Company 142 Delaronde Street Algiers, louisiana 70114

Dear Mr. Wyatt:

In view of the recent and potentially disasterous nuclear power plant accident in Pennsylvania, we request that all construction on the Waterford III nuclear plant in Taft, Louisiana be halted.

The Waterford III plant is essentially the same design as the Three Mile Island plant in !!a rr isb u rg, and until the causes and effects of such an accident can be ascertained, we do not feel that continued work at the Taft site can be justified.

In 1973, prior to the beginning of construction of Waterford III, a committee of La Place citizens, (of which most of us were members) wrote to your company and the political leaders of the area, asking that alternate methods of energy production be pursued.

We were told by both government and Louisiana Power & Light experts that nuclear power was extremely safe and that there was no cause for concern The events of last week prove this infor-mation to be misleading, at best.

A serious nuclear accident in this type of plant can and did happen.

La Place is located only five (5) miles upriver of the Waterford Ill Plant, and lies in the path of the predominant wind flow from the nuclear plant site.

6 In the interest of the safety of the popul a tion of this area, we ask that all concideration be given to our foregoing request; that construction be imaediately stopped on Waterford III.

Si1cerely, 4
