INSPECTION REPORT 050-00018/2019-001; 050-00070/2019-001;

050-00183/2019-001 AND NOTICE OF VIOLATION

Dear Mr. Feyrer:

On June 24, 2019, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) cited GE Hitachi Nuclear

Energy Americas, LLC, (GE Hitachi) for violations that involved your failures to: (1) adequately

inspect the condition, security, and integrity of the retired facility during the annual inspection;

(2) perform adequate surveys in the shutdown reactors containment buildings to demonstrate

compliance with 10 CFR 20.1501(a); (3) ensure that instruments and equipment used for

radiation measured in the containment buildings are calibrated for the radiation measured; and

(4) implement and maintain a respiratory protection program for the activities associated with air

sampling sufficient to identify the potential hazard, permit proper equipment selection, and

estimate doses. NRC Inspection Report 050-00018/2019-001; 050-00070/2019-001;

050-00183/2019-001 (Agencywide Document and Access Management System [ADAMS]

Accession No. ML19163A294) with enclosed Notice of Violation required you to respond in

writing within 30 days. You responded by letter dated July 23, 2019 (ADAMS Accession

No. ML19205A023).

After reviewing the information you provided in your responses to the Notice of Violation, we

have concluded that your completed and proposed corrective actions appear to adequately

address the regulatory noncompliance as described in the Notice of Violation. We will review

the implementation and effectiveness of these corrective actions in detail during a future

inspection to determine whether full compliance has been restored and whether compliance will

be maintained.

M. Feyrer 2

In accordance with 10 CFR 2.390 of the NRCs Agency Rules of Practice and Procedure, a

copy of this letter will be made available electronically for public inspection in the NRC Public

Document Room or from the NRCs Agencywide Documents Access Management System

(ADAMS), accessible from the NRC Web site at http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/adams.html.

Sincerely,

/RA/
