SUMMARY
OF JULY 18, 2019, CLOSED MEETING WITH THE U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION STAFF AND X-ENERGY LLC, TO DISCUSS PLANNED SUBMITTAL OF QUALITY ASSURANCE TROPICAL REPORT AND FUTURE ENGAGEMENT ON SOURCE TERM METHODOLOGY On July 18, 2019, a closed meeting was held between the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff and representatives from X-Energy, LLC, (X-Energy) at the NRC offices. The purpose of this meeting was for X-Energy personnel to provide information regarding their planned submittal of a Quality Assurance Program Description (QAPD) topical report for NRC review and planned regulatory engagement regarding verification and validation of X-Energys source term methodology.
Ms. Amy Cubbage, Office of New Reactors, provided introductory remarks for the NRC staff, followed by introductory remarks by Harlon Bowers, President of X-Energy. Mr. Theo Odenhall, X-Energy began the technical discussion by providing an overview of the X-Energy Quality Assurance Topical Report, which was subsequently submitted to the NRC for review on July 31, 2019 (ADAMS Accession Number ML19213A059). Mr. Martin van Staden then provided a discussion of the verification and validation process for the XSTERM code suite which X-Energy plans to use to calculate the source term for the XE-100 high temperature gas-cooled reactor design. X-energy plans submit a white paper on source term verification and validation in the future to facilitate additional discussion on this topic.
