Dear Mr. Chairman:

Your letter of November 6,1979 to Chairman Hendrie requested that the NRC provide information on evacuation times for ten specific sites as soon as our staff obtains this information and requested an approximate date when the staff expects to receive such information for each site.

Staff teams have now visited 22 sites of the 50 to be visited including six of the sites on your list. The other four sites on your list (Ginna, Haddam Neck, Main Yankee and Turkey Point) are scheduled for visits the winter or spring of 1980.

.11ttals in response to our requests for upgraded plans. Additional correspondence or other contacts with licensees will be necessary before the plans can be accepted as meeting our criteria and we do not currently have infor-mation adequate to be responsive to your request.

In view of this, and in view of our own need to understand the areas around nuclear power plants which may require special attention with regard to evacuation planning, we have sent the enclosed request for information to power reactor licensees.

The request for information also specifies a comon format for submittal of evacuation time estimates.

The submittal date specified in the enclosed letter is January 31, 1980.

Should we receive earlier responses from the facilities on your list, we will forward these when received.
