SUBJECT:
ASSURANCES FROM THE GOVERNMENT OF JAPAN ON PROPOSED EXPORT OF SOURCE MATERIAL (XUO8481)
On December 21, 1979 Westinghouse Electric Corporation requested expeditious processing of a license request for the export of 16 fuel rods containing uranium to Japan for use in the Mihama No. 01 Nuclear Power Station (XUO8481).
These rods are being substituted for mixed oxide rods previously authorized under license XSNM000510. The USG received the necessary assurances from the Government of Japan bringing these rods under the US-Japanese Agreement for Cooperation.
Since the material in the new request is a substitution for material for which assurances have been received, it is the staff's conclusion that additional assurances covering the 16 substituted fuel rods are not required.
