A)

In response to an f!RR User's Request, RES issued a contract to Rockwell International under FIN No. 83032 to perform a literature survey on safety valve response.

This survey is completed and results documented in NUREG/Cr-0687.

Conclusion has been reached that con-firmatory experiments are needed.

Some coordination on testing effort may be possible with FRG, Japan etc. Formal user's request needs to be modified.

Preliminary funding estimate of $1.25M for FY'80 through FY'81 has been provided by RES. Also RES has currently estimated $1.78M for FY'82. These programs will provide direct support to resolution of TAP A-9 for PWR's.

B) Contract with RPI (FIN B-6461) " Thermal Hydraulic Stability Analysis" has been transferred to RES.

It is expected that some confirmatory analysis support will be needed relative to 8WR stability.

Estimated completion of the BWR work is second quarter FY'81.

Detailed work scope is not completed as yet.

Projected funding by RES is $376K through FY'81.
