Dear Sir:
To assist your Staff in carrying out its responsibility to inform the Atomic Safety & Licensing Board for the Control Building Proceeding of shutdown of the Trojan Nuclear Plant, the following information is provided concerning a Plant shutdown on January 6,1980.
During the morning of January 6,1980, main condenser vacuum began decreasing slowly. Plant output was reduced, the main turbine was tripped at 11:53 a.m., and the reactor was manually tripped at 11:59 a.m.
An air leak into the main condenser has been repaired and the Plant returned to power operation at 10:10 a.m. on January 7, 1980.
