By letter of August 31, 1979, Consumers Power Company provided certain design criteria as mquested by our Fire Protection SER of April 4, 1979, for the fallowing proposed modifitations:
3.1.3 Fire Barrier Penetrations; 3.1.23 Recirculation Pump Area Sprinklers; and 3.1.26 Protection of Reactor Depressurization System (RDS) Cables. We have reviewed these design criteria and find that: an adequate number and type of fire detectors will be installed in appropriate locations; hose connections and isolation valves will be provided to bypass breaks in the fire pump header; an adequate cable penetration fire stop design will be used; an appropriate water spray system will be installed for the recirculation pump oil hazard; and adequate barriers are being installed to protect RDS cables. Additionally, these modifications are being designed in accordance with appropriate NFPA standards. On this basis, we find that the design of these modifications provides the protection we intended in preparing our SER. nccordingly, we find the design criteria for these modifications to be acceptable.
