SUBJECT:

HEALTH EFFECTS FROM LOW-LEVEL RADIATION In an October 15, 1979 memo from Lee V. Gossick to multiple addresses on the subject of Performance Appraisal Reporting (Attachment 1), SD was assigned the lead in the area of Health Effects from Low-Level Radiation.
The briefing in this subject area is scheduled for December 7,1979. As per attachment 1, Mr. Minogue will discuss the long range program plan through its estimated completion date or progress through five years.
"In the context of this overall plan, the FY 1980 program objectives, planned accomplishments and planned resources should be identified and described by decision unit."
Planned resources should include estimated manpower needs and use of consultants.
Please provide your input to me by November 30, 1979 so that there will be adequate time for preparation of Mr. Minogue's briefing of the Commission.
Please inform me by November 21st who will have the lead in your office for this task.
If possible, your input should fall into the following categories:
(Note that these categories are taken directly from the NRC/ EPA Joint Report to Congress -
I.
Epidemiology (followup of earlier work, new studies)
II. Comparative Biology (humans, animals)
III. Basic Biology (metabolic and dosimetry studies, studies of effects on animals, mechanisms)
IV. Human Exposure Pathways (atmospheric, aquatic and soil models) 1632 190

Multi Addresses 2
There are apt to be overlaps in some particular entries.
In order to decide into which category the entry belongs, decide in favor of the direction of the major portion of the work.
If further problems in assignment arise, give the pertinent information and I will take a shot at it.
