Docket Nos. 50-277 50-278 IE Bulletin 79-14 Mr. Boyce H.
Grier, Director Office of Inspection & Enforcement Region I United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission 631 Park Avenue King of Prussia, PA 19406
Dear Mr. G rie r :
This letter updates the status of Bulletin 79-14 concerning the review of seismic analyses for 'as-built' safety-related piping.
The inspection and measurement of 31,425 feet of piping has been c o mp le t e d, except for the removal of insulation and inspection of welded attachments which are in p rogress.
This quantity of piping includes 98.8 % of Units 2 and 3 accessible piping and 98.6 % of Unit 3 and common inaccessible piping that required inspection by Bulletin 79-14.
The inspection and measurement of Units 2 and 3 accessible piping and Unit 3 inaccessible piping will be completed by the end of the current refueling outage.
Unit 2 inaccessible piping will be completed during the Spring, 1980 Unit 2 refueling outage.
As of O ct obe r 27, 1979, stress analy s ts had received approximately 27,400 feet of 'as-built' inf ormation from the field and had compared the field 'as-built' data with the seismic analysis input data for approximately 22,400 feet of this piping.
Approximately 3,760 feet of the 22,400 feet have received a final engineering evaluation.
It has been determined that seven seismic analyses need to be redone as a result of identified 1591 195 7 912170 2 64C)

Grier Page 2 nonconformances.
Four of the seven reanalyses have been completed and the results are acceptable.
Of the 28 nonconformances identified thus far, only one has been judged to affect the operability of a system.
This nonconformance, rep orted in LER 3-79-29/ IP will be res olved p rior to Unit 3 returning to service.
It is anticipated that the inspection and review of accessible piping and all Unit 3 inaccessible piping will be completed by December 15, 1979, at which time a report of the results of the review will be f orwarded t o y ou.
Very t ruly y ou rs,
