SUPPLEMENT TO DOE MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT SPECIFICATION SP REVISION 1 The subject DOE Specification is essentially a recipe using starting materials with various trade names and grades.
From time-to-time, these trade names and grades are withdrawn from the market by industry. The replacement materials, while being equivalent to the replaced materials, appear under different trade names and grades.
Earlier DOE-OR0 requested that its prime contractor, Union Carbide Corpora-tion - Nuclear Division, Oak Ridge Gaseous Diffusion Plant test some sub-stitute materials to determine their equivalency. Report K/TL-729 sum-marizes the results of the testing.
00E-0R0 has reviewed and approved the report.
Report K/TL-729 is now a supplement to the Specification SP-9, Revision 1.
It is also included in CAPE-1662, since the phenolic foam is used in the DOT Specification 20PF and 21PF Packages for UF. The phenolic foam in-6 sulation was used in the ORNL Unirradiated Fuel Shipping Container -
f Certificate of Compliance USA /9853/BF (00E-OR).
7-It is requested that the phenolic foam using the starting materials out-lined in the enclosed report (12 copies) be also approved for Model FL-10-1 f.
