Dear Senator Culver:
In regard to your letter of August 29, 1979, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission has responded to Mr. Bob Romick's Freedom of Information Act request for documents concerning " accidents" at nuclear power plants in the USA for the years 1949 through 1979 (F0IA-79-354).
Two copies of our response to Mr. Romick are enclosed.
As stated in our letter, copies of the requested documents were sent to Mr. Romick and placed in the NRC Public Document Room,1717 H Street, N.W., Washington, DC, for public inspection and copying, together with a copy of his request.

Dear Mr. Romic:
This is in reply to your letter dated August 22, 1979, in which you requested, pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act, a copy of a list of accidents concerning nuclear power plants in the United States for the years 1949 through 1979. Your request asked for the plant site, cause, date and amount of radiation released into the surroundigg area near the sites and/or to the workers in-the plants.
This confirms that in a telephon'e conversation with you on September.12, 1979, Mr. Frank W. Karas of this office discussed with you the nature of your request so as to facilitate the search for documents which would contain information of interest to you.
The documents described in Appendix A have been identified as being subject to your request.
Copies of these documents are enclosed (i.otal 298 pages), and a copy of each is being placed in the NRC Public Document Room, 1717 H Street, N.W., Washington, DC.
This completes action on your request.
