Dear Mr. Grier:

Subjecc:

Second Supplementary Response to IE Bulletin 79-14 In addition to the field activity reported in our supplementary response to IE Bulletin 79-14, Re ference (d), we have also completed a detailed field check of 80 seismic restraints on safety class systems in Maine Yankee, of which fifty are in the containment and the remaining thirty restraints are outside containment.

These checks were completed on supports for safety class piping 2 1/2" in diameter and larger.

We have committed in Reference (c) to extensive reanalysis of seismic piping and suppotts at Maine Yankee as a consequence of the March 13, 1979 Show Cause Order. This commitment involves an exten:ive detailed field check of seismic restraints.

To facilitate the seismic retnalysis, which will yield new support loads, it is necessary to gather the appr>priate information; i.e., piping geometry, restraint location snc restraiit function.

In conjunction with the new analyses a detailed check of the as-built seismic supports. configuration will be completed.

Thi s inforn ation will allow a meaningful comparison of loads from the confirmed reanalyses against the structural capabilities of the as-built seismi.: restra nts.
