MOV 1 5 1D79 Terry Strong, Head Occupational Health Section M/S LD-ll Department of Social & Health Services Olympia, WA 98504 rongN Dear Mr.
Thi is to confirm Joel Lubenau's telephone conversation with you on November 13, 1979.
Chairman Hendrie has promised Governor Ray, among other things, contractual technical assistance support in the State's efforts to assure safe operation of the Hanford low level waste burial site if it is reopened.
Such support would include enhancement of the State's program to monitor radioactive materials being transported in Washington, including to the site. We plan to make this contractual assistance available by expanding the current NRC/D0T Washington con-tract for surveillance of the transportation of radioactive materials from $20,000 to $50,000.
As Mr. Lubenau indicated to you, we will need technical and cost proposals to support the increased funding.
Our Division of Contracts will be in touch with you shortly with a formal request for this data.
When these proposals are received, we will move ahead to complete this phase of fulfilling Chairman Hendrie's commitment to Governor Ray.
Si ce ly, Sheldon Schwar.
