20555 Attn:
Mr. A. Schwencer Gentlemen:
RE: Multiple Rod Drop Analyses Alabama Power Company was informed, by Westinghouse Electric Corpora-tion, of a possible non-conservatism in the negative rate trip setpoint for multiple rod drop analyses. This involves revised higher error allowances for negative rate trip circuitry and potential non-conservatism of some dropped rod analyses assumptions.
Alabama Power Company commits to change appropriate plant procedures to require operation in manual control above 90 percent pouer when control rod bank "D" is below 215 steps withdrawn. Automatic control is allowed above 90 percent power when bank "D" is above 215 steps withdrawn.
The procedure changes described above will be implemented prior to reaching 90 percent power during the current Farley-1 startup.
Yours very truly, 7
