Dear Mr. Reid:
This letter is in response to your letter dated September 27, 1979 (Log No. 444) requesting a commitment be made by Toledo Edison to implement a valve qualification program for the containment purge and vent valves utilized at Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station Unit 1.
Toledo Edison is presently pursuing the analytical method to verify valve operability. This analysis is expected to be performed by the valve manufacturer in accordance with the guidelines stated in your September 27, 1979 letter.
In discussions with the valve vendor it is Toledo Edison's understanding that the lead time for such an analysis is approximately 30 weeks.
The progress of this program will be monitored and expedited when possible.
