This preli2inary notification constitutes EARLY notice of events of POSSIBLE national '.ecurity or public interest significance. The information presented is as in tially received without verification or evaluation and is basically all that is known by IE staff as of this date.

Tennessee Valley Authority Power Operation Support Facility Nashville, Tennessee SUPJECT:

RADI0 ACTIVE MATERIALS H0AX At 3:00 a.m. EDT on August 10, 1979 the Associated Press in Nashville, Tennessee received an anonymous telephone call saying that 300 grams of radioactive material would be released inside a TVA power operation support facility in Nashville. The Associated Press called Nashville police and TVA security.

Police went to the office complex where thdy found that a small brick wrapped in aluminum foil had been thrown through the front door.

TVA brought in health physics specialists to examine the package, and it was not radioactive.

A threatening note was attached. TVA notified the FBI.

The IAT has been notified.

This event did not involve any TVA facility licensed by the NRC.

There has been media interest.

The State of Tennessee has been informed.

Region II (Atlanta) received notification of this occurrence by telephone from the TVA Public Information Officer at 6:30 a.m. EDT on August 10.
