Gentlemen:
In response to your letter of September 17, 1979, concerning the implementation of the EPA Uranium Fuel Cycle Standard, 40 CRF 190, the following is provided.
The exi s t ing Techni c al Specifications for Arkansas Nuc lear One-Uni +.s 1 and 2 (ANO-1 and 2) include objectives to assure that the release of radio-active material to unrestricted areas meets the as-low-as-rea-sonably achievable concept.
These technical specificati,ns objectives meet the intent of the guidelines set forth in the Concluding Statement of Position of the Regula tory Sttf f (Docke t RM-50-2), as published under Appendix I of 10 CFR 50.
It is our understanding that if a f acili ty meets the require-ments of this " Concluding Statenent of Position", it also meets the requirements of 40 CFR 190.
Since the objectives of the ANO-1 and 2 Technical Specifi-cations were developed to conform to the " Concluding State-ment of Position", we therefore feel we are in compliance with 40 CFR 190 at this time.
Very truly yours,
?r$8 0.
