7 Description of Facility and Use to Which Facility Will Pe Put_

j 5 The utilization facility is a pressurized water nuclear reactor which will form an integral part of a nuclear electric generating station to be located on Three Mile Island in Londonderry Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania and known as Three Mile Island Nuclear Station Unit 1. The facility vill be capable of operation at a reactor thermal power level of approxicately 2535 MWt. The corresponding net electrical output is 845 MWe. Details concerning the station and the site are contained in the Final Safety Analysis Report (FSAR) which was filed with the Atomic Energy Co= mission (AEC) on March 2,1970, and is' incorporated herein by reference.

6. Financial Qualifications Met-Ed, Jersey Central and Penelec vill own the station as tenants d in com=on without right of partition with the following respective undivided ownership interests: ..

The applicants vill share expenditures for the construction, operation, and maintenance of the station, and vill share in the energy production in proportion to their undivided ownership interests.

financial statements for the year ended December 31, 1969, are at.tached as Exhibits I, II, III, and IV, respectively.

() Applicants have not formulated plans for permanent shutdown of the Three Mile Island Unit 1 facility. However, assuming shutdown measures comparable to those authorized by the Commission for the retirement of the Hallam Nuclear Power Facility, applicants estimate that the cost of retirement for Three Mile Island Unit 1 based on current dollar values, would not exceed $6,000,C00. An additional 350,000 oer year will be set aside to cover the cost of round the clock surveillance of the facility and periodic maintenance to fences and barriers. Met-Ed. Jersey Central and Penelec will purchase uranium for the first core from private sources and will obtain necessar.y enrichment throur,h toll enriching arrangements with the AEC.

Table I, hereto attached, lists the estimated operating costs for Three Mile Island Unit i for the five year period 1973 through 1977.

Met-Ed, Jersey Central and Penele,c agree that they will not permit any individual to have access to Restricted Data until the Civ,il Service Commission shall have dade an investigation and a report to the Atomic Energy Commission on the character, associations and loyalty of such individual, and the Atomic Energy Commission shall have determined that permitting such person t; have access to Restricted Data will not endanrEr the common defense and -
