DSI DAILY REPORT OF SIGNIFICANT EVENTS 7/14/78 Facility: Metropolitan Edison Company Three Mile Island Nuclear Station Units 1 & 2 Middletown, Pennsylvania DNs.
289 d 50-320 subject; ASSISTANL TRANDED FISHERMIN On July 13,1978 at 2:10 a.m., a group of 15 fishemen in a disabled boat landed their boat on Three Mile Island seeking assistance. One of the boat crew climbed the owner controlled fence and entered the warehouse where he was met by a Metropolitan Edison Company employee.
The security foree was notified and verified the situation as explained by the boat crew member and made arrangements to transport all 15 persons off the island. The protected security area was not entered, therefore, there was no breach of security and the licensee does not consider the action a trespass on to their property because of the circumstances.
Media interest is expected because inquiries regarding the incident have been received from the Harrisburg Evening News. The Comonwealth of Pennyylvania has been infomed. A press release is not )lanned by the licensee or NRC.
NRC, Region I. (Philadelphia) received notification of this occurrence by telephone from licensee representatives at 9:55 a.m. on July 14, 1978.
