References : (a) AEC letter of September 24, 1973 R. C. DeYoung to Metropolitan Ediscn Company - Mr. J. G. Miller (b) Metropolitan Edison Cc=pany letter of October 2h ,1973 - Mr. J. G. Miller to Mr. R. C. DeYoung, U.S. AEC This letter la being sent to clarify our intended action at "'hree Mile Island Unit 1 regarding the replacement of time delay dashpot end caps centained on engineered safeguard circuit breakers. Reference (a) suggested that an acceptable resolution to the AEC would be to replace all time delay dashpot end caps which were involverf in the defective manufacturing prccess with new caps, whose time delay function is factory tested to the requirenents of ANSI C37.17. Our response to the AEC contained in reference (b) indicated that we would replace all time delay dashpot end caps on engineered safeguard circuit breakers. Subsequent discussicn with Westinghouse Switchgear Division indicated that only type DB-50 circuit breakers experienced the cracked end cap problem with which you are familiar. We are, therefore, only replacing time delay dashpot end caps on Westinghouse DB-50 circuit breakers contained on engineered safeguard circuit breakers.
