Dear th. Price:
'Ihis is in response to Mr. Boyd's letter of October 5,1967, transmitting a copy of Amendment No. 2 to the application by the Metropolitan Edison Capany for construction permit for the proposed 'Ihree lille Island Nuclear Station, Unit 1, Daupnin County, Pennsylvania, Docket No. 50-289 We have reviewed Volume h of the Preliminny Safety Analysis Report, which contains answers to questions raised by the remminaion concerning the application for the above plant.
With regard to the applicant's answer to question 2.62 of Volume h, which describes the pre-operational monitoring program, we urge that the applicant comply with those specific recommendations dealing with aspects of the pre-operational environmental monitoring progran as listed in our letter of September 26, 1967, to the Atomic Energy Commission. We would like to reemphasize that dotemination of background radiation in the pre-operational environmental monitoring program also includes samples of river sediments, crustaceans, and molluses, if avniinkle.
The opportunity to provide comments on the amendment is appreciated.
Sincerely youro,
.lSGDI CLARENCE F. PAUTZKE Commissioner c'
