Q/

'-s b ) Q 3.-k "aar Sir:

Three Mile Island Nuclear Station Unit 1 ("MI-1)

Docket No. 50-289 Operating License No. DPR-50 Decay Heat Pump Shafts In accordance with Metropolitan Edison Company letter cf September 8, 1977, GQL 123h, Paragraph 1. A. Vibration Testing, attached please find the December vibration testing data for DE-P-1A and DH-P-1B.

DH-P-1A Met-Ed Generation Engineering has reviewed the December 5,1977, vibration testing data for DH-P-1A and has noted that the 18,000 cpm data for locations AH and BH exceeds the November h,1977, baseline by more than 505. However, based on the IRD Vibration Severity Chart, the December 5 readings are indicative of a "gcod" running pump.

DH-P-13 Met-Ed Generation Engineering has reviewed the December 6,1977, vibration testing data for DE-P-13 and has noted that the 900 era data for locaticas AV and 3H exceeds the November 3,1977, baseline by more than 50%. However, based on the IRD Vibration Severity Chart, the December 6 readings are indicative of a "gcod" running pump.

It should be noted that changes in amplitude of 50% or more are insignificant, when compared to the extremely low baseline values, and that such changes can be expected.

1493 124 7800901A*

R. W. Reid, Chief January 5, 1978 GOL 0007 Based en the above, Met-Ed Generation Engineering has ccncluded that since the vibration levels of DH-P-1A and CH-P-15 are so low, no corrective action is required.

Sincerely, i

J. G. Herbein Vice President-Generation JGH:PJS:gs Attachments 1493 125
