Attached are three signed originals and 19 conformed copies of Amendment No.1 to the construction permit application for the Three Mile Island Nuclear Station Unit 1.
This amendment modifies the Preliminary Safety Analysis Report to reflect changes made to the plant design in several These design modifications include (1) the incorporation areas.

BEFORE THE UNITED STATES ATOMIC ENERGY COMMISSION AMENDMENT NO. 1 TO APPLICATION BY METROPOLITAN EDISON COMPANY FOR A SECTION lobb CONSTRUCTION PERMIT AND LIG;NSE FOR A UTILIZATION FACILITY DOCKET NO. 50-289 Metropolitan Edison Company, a corporation organized under the laws of the State of Pennsylvania, applicant for an operating license and construction permit for the Three Mile Island Nuclear Station Unit 1, hereby amends its application to reflect modi-fications made to the plant design in several areas. These design modifications include (1) the incorporation of cooling towers to rcplace the cooling pond in the condenser circulating system, (2) the incorporation of the rack and pinion control rod drive mechanisms, and (3) a change in the number of reactor building atmosphere cooling units and the number of make-up pumps.
Ad-ditional data is also nrovided on reactor and core design.
This amendment to the application contains no restricted or other defense infor=ation.
