Eear Sir:

Cperating License No. DPR-50 Docket No. 50-289 Cn June 8, 1977, we received your letter requesting that, by July 22, 1977, we compare the current design of the emergency power systems at Three Mile Island Nuclear Station, Unit I with the Staff Positions stated in ycur en-closure and:

1) prcpose plant =cdifications as necessary to meet the Staff Positions, Cr
2) provide a detailed analysis which shows Three Mile Island Nuclear Station, Unit I design has equivalent capabilities and protective features.

Additionally, you requested a Technical Specificaticn Change Request to the opera-ting license consistent with the Model Technical Specificaticns, along with a schedule fer the cc=pletien of any Unit I associated modificaticns.

'ie have completed cur respense to the first cf the three requests and are now reviewing a Technical Specification Change Request to ecmply with the seccnd request. Ecvever, we have not cetpiled a schedule of associated =cdificaticns and therefore, Metropolitan Edison Co. is requesting an extension of thirty- ne .
