Dear Mr. Giembusso:

Three Mile Island Nuclear Station Unit I (DfI-1)

Operating License No. DPR-50 Docket No. 50-289 The purpcse of this letter is to provide your office additional infor=ation regarding the status of an inspection nregra= that we are ccnducting of TMI-l Engineered Safeguards Motor Centrol Center Units (Ref: TMI-l Abnormal Occur-rence Report No. 50-289/75-07 dated April 2, 1975 {GQ,L 0893. To this end, please be advised that at this time the status of the subject progran is that with the exception of six units, we still anticipate eccpleting the inspection and, it necessary, correcting any discos ared deficiencies for all of the sub-ject units by June 30, 1975 With regard to the six units that will not be inspected by June 30, 1975, three units have been inspected visually and no deficiencies were observed. As fur-ther inspection of all six units would require either de-energi::ing the asso-ciated buses, partial disassembly of meter control centers for physical er visual inspecticn,or other adverse disruptiens of normal operations, it is not desirable to conduct additional inspections of any of these units. Further= ore, in that the results of the inspection progran to date indicate that it is extremely unlikely that a failure vill occur in any of the six units in questien, ve do not plan to inspect these units. Also, please note that it has been determined that the highly unlikely failure of any cne of these units and its asse iated DB-50 breaker would not in itself constitute a threat to the health and safety of the public due to the redundancy that exists in plant safety syste:. Dccumentation of the inspection program and its results are available at the TMI-l site. Should you, however, have any additional questiens or ccncerns, please centact =e. Sincerely, 1476 198 R. C.
