Three Mile Island Nuclear Station, Unit id~"4I-g The purpose of this letter is to infor= you of a situation which does net require reporting with cny of the T'<I-l Technical Specifi7ation requirements, but is of sufficient concern that we fee.1 it is prudent to make ycu aware of it.
The subject situatien occurred during the October cutage during which time balancing of the reactor ecolant pumps was acccmplished. As part cf this balancing operation it was necessary to use lenger pump /rcter coupling bolts in crder to add additional balancing weigF s.
The subject belts were obtained from the vender, installed, and the pu=ps were declared operable. Cur having declared the purps cperable, however, constituted a break-down in aiministrative controls iu '. hat at that time it had not been determined if the vender CC documentation, which accetpanied the belts, was adequate. Subsequent t o this,
it was deter ined that the dccurentaticn was adequate, and the pumps, therefer*
we.e in fact operable.
Althcugh this situation neither caused nor th eate.el to cause an unsafe ccnditicn in the operation of the plant, additional preventative measures vill be taken by December 8,1975, so as to prevent a recurrence cf this type of situation.
