Dear Mr. Keppler:

Per discussions with your staff in July, 1979 with regard to Reference (a), Commonwealth Edison Company agreed to provide Region III a monthly status report of its progress in completing the items of Reference (a) for Dresden, Quad-Cities and Zion Stations.

A status report through September 10, 1979 follows:

A.

Zion Station 1.

Scope - At Zion, there are over 3,100 anchors (1,550 per unit).

Of this number approximately 620 per unit are accessible and 930 per unit are inaccessible.

2.

Progress - Currently, 204 anchor assemblies have been inspected with about 32% having discrepancies requiring additional inspection to resolve.

However, no major deficiencies have been found.

Manpower - Currently, Zion is utilizing 30 men / day working 8 hours9.259259e-5 days <br />0.00222 hours <br />1.322751e-5 weeks <br />3.044e-6 months <br /> / day, 6 days / week.

Plans are being implemented to raise this force to 60 men.

Experience to date indicates that the fitters used for this work require greater than anticipated training as they are not used to inspection-type work.

4 Completion Schedule - With the planned manpower in-crease, all accessible anchor assembly inspections including repairs / resolutions are estimated to be completed by December 1, 1979.

B.

Dresden and Quad-Cities Stations 1.

Scope - Approximately 800 support plates (200 per unit) with anchor bolts are installed in the Dresden and Quad-Cities units.

The majority of these are in accessible areas.

2.

Progress - At Dresden, 30 hangers have been inspected with about 16% having discrepancies requiring minor repairs.

However, no major deficiencies have been found.

At Quad-Cities, the inspection phase was initiated on an accelerated basis on September 10, but no results are available at this time.

Manpower - Currr.atly, Dresden is utilizing 13 men / day, working 10 hours1.157407e-4 days <br />0.00278 hours <br />1.653439e-5 weeks <br />3.805e-6 months <br /> / day, 5 days per week and Quad-Cities is utilizing 32 men / day working 8 hours9.259259e-5 days <br />0.00222 hours <br />1.322751e-5 weeks <br />3.044e-6 months <br /> / day, 6 days / week.

Plans are being implemented to raise the work force at Dresden to 25 men / day by September 10 and 50 men / day by September 26.

Completion Schedule - With the inspection phases in full swing, all required tecessible anchor assembly inspec-tions, including repairs and resolutions, are expected to be completed by November 15, 1979.
