$N lin unscheduled gaseous release occurred at 1:05 a.n., September 20, 1979, during venting of a Sately Injection (ST) Tank.

I.ack of adeouate coordination between personnel venting the $1 Tank and the operator at the ' Waste Gas Storage Dru:n reiui ted in blowing out a loop: seal and venting gas in the s torage drum to the drIr: cry Vent Stack.

Three hundred cubic feet of ges was released over a 3 min:.Le period with the following rajor isotopic concentrations:

X0-133, 5.D E-1 uCi/cc: Xe-131m. 4.46 E-2 uti/cc: and Kr-85, 5.1 E-2 uC1/cc.

No release rate 1mits or other Technical 5pecificaion limits were exceeded.

Media interest is expected because of the general concern with respect to nuclear reactor facilities.

The State of Maine has been informcd.

A press release is not planne-J by the 1itensee or NRC at this tire.

Rw;1on I (Philadelphia) received notification of this matter by telephone from t,e licensee at 1:55 p.m. on September 28, 1979.
