This letter confirms the telephone conversation between Mr. W. W. Schwiers.
and Mr. Quane Danielson of September 25, 1979 in which we reported receipt of a letter from Gould, Inc. dated September 17, 1979 stating that Gould, Inc.
Electrical Product Group gave notice to the NRC of a potential product defect pursuant to 10CTR21, Section 21.21 in their NEMA Size 3 starters and contact.nr1 suoplied and manufactured by Gould, Inc., Distribution and Controls Division between June 1,1978 to August,1979.
The nature of the product hazard involves seisure or binding of the carrier assembly P/N40ll79 within the support plate P/H40ll78 of the stationary contact assembly because the 1.392" dimension is undersized to 1.376".
Retrofi kits and installation details will be available and distributed by Gould upon determination of our specific needs.
It is our intention to review our purchase orders and receipts of Gould NEMA Size 3 starters and contactors during this period of time and install retrofit kits to those units we identify as potentially defective.
