Gentlemen:
Millstone Nuclear Power Station, Unit No. 2 I&E Bulletin #79-06C In Reference (1), Northeast Nuclear Energy Company (NNECO) was requested to pro-vide additional information relating to Reactor Coolant Pump (RCP) operation under various transient conditions.
In response to that request, Reference (2) was provided to address Items 1 through 3 of Reference (1).
In response to Item 4, please be advised that applicable plant procedures have been revised in accordance with the guidelines provided in CEN-ll5P.
Specifically, the revised procedure requires plant operators to insure that all control rods have been fully inserted for at least five (5) seconds before tripping the RCP's.
This feature insures that the results presented in current non-LOCA safety analyses remain valid.
Instructions to plant operators regardin3 RCP t. ripping remain in the immediate action section of the applicable procedures.
As you are aware, additional efforts are in progress to ascertain if RCP operabilit y need be considered to insure conformance with Appendix K.
