Re: Allens Creek Nuclear Generating i Station Reactor Pressure Vessel !
Off-loading Facility
Dear Mr. McGuire:
In response to your request concerning the above-referenced project, we have reviewed the information forwarded to the Texas Historical Commission and find that as described, the implementation of this proposal may affect the Sweeny Plantation, a property which has been determined eligible for the National l Register of Historic Places. Because we believe that other sites of signifi-cance lie with the area generally af fected and to comply with federal legisla- .
tion concerning the proc._cion of cultural resources, the area must be surveyed.
To accomodate your need in finding an appropriately trained specialist to locate, inventory and nominate sites to the National Register of Historic Places, we are sending along a list of professionals that are capable of performing this type of !
service. By selecting a person close to your area, the cost and time required to ,
perform this work should prove minimal. Upon receipt of the evaluation of the pre- '
ject in relation to cutlural resources, we will immediately respond. ;
Your attention to this matter is appreciated. If we may be of further service, please advise.
Sincerely, Truett Lati=er 'I '! 4 PJ 8 J" State Historic Preservation Officer n

Many projects for which the State Historic Preservation Officer requires surveys ,
! are small. Often a letter report can adequately describe the results. However, . ;l certain elements should be included in the letter report in order to further our !
knowledge of Texas archeology and to expedite the bureaucratic process. They are:
]
- 1. A clear map of the surveyed area. The maps we receive from applicants are often poor. A good cap from you can increase our infor=ation on a particular location and ensure that the area surveyed is the same for which the survey was requested.
- 2. A description of the topography. "
- 3. A description and evaluation of the resources found. If none are found, we would like your opinion on whv nothing was encountered - natural erosion, agri-culture, lack of exploitable environ =ent, etc.
. A thoughtfully considered justification for any reco== ended =cnitoring during construction, if there are no significant surface indications of artifactural re-
=ains. ne justification cust be adequate if the archeologist expects this pro-cecure to be adopted by the SHPO and the responsible agency.
?. A su==arv of the proj ect itself. '.in a t federal and state agencies, local government, or private companies are involved, and in what way? We need this information to insure proper record-keeping.
- c. Photographs of all structures on the property, whether or not they are to be de=olished.
Your cooperation is greatly appreciated. If we can be of further assistance in this regard, please feel free to contact us.
