Dear Mr. MacDonald:
M It is requested that the Certificate of Compliance for radioactive materials package number USA /6574/B( ) be renewed. Attached is an updated copy of the Safety Analysis Report for Model No. HN-200 package which documents the current status of the shipping package and presents analyses to assure com-pliance with all of the requirements of 10 CFR, Part 71.
The current certificate of Compliance expires on September 30, 1979.
It is requested that this Certificate of Compliance be extended, as required, to permit review of the updated Safety Analysis Report. The hW-200 shipping package n functioned on a virtually continuous basis during the past five years at' has yielded safe and operationally satisfactory service.
The original Certificate of Compliance No. 6574 (Rev. 0), was issued Septem-ber 13, 1974 There have been two subsequent revisions. The first revision, (Rev. 1), was approved on May 4, 1977 and in essence indicated woo. den battens could be used to prevent significant relative motion between the cask shield plug cnd package waste. The second revisior., (Rev. 2), was issued July 10, 1979, and dealt with the removal of the requirement that a specific type large disposable inner container be used and the inclusion of a generic single large cylindrical disposable inner container.
The Safety Analysis Report is to a very large degree the same as the original one submitted in 1974 A complete review of all analyses has been made. The revisions noted above have been incorporated and the text has been revised for clarity and to remove typographical errors. The entire document has been reprinted.

h Mr. Charles E. MacDonald September 11, 1979 The most significant additions to the original safety analysis report are as follows:
1.
The lower "Z" ring on the impact skirt is~remered to permit canning to be used to seal the joints. The structural members on the lower cask are more adequate to retain the skirt.
2.
Lifting devices have been welded. to the cask lid to allow for the canning of the lid fins.
Re-analysis of these new lifting devices is presented in the revised Safety Analyses Report.
3.
The insulation on the shield plug has been removed to minimize areas of contamination.
Also the c' lor of the cask body not canned in stainless o
steel has been changed from yellow to grey. The removal of this small quantity of insulation and color change does not significantly affect the thermal analysis.
To facilitate the review of the revised Safety Analysis Report, t: e changes have been listed in Appendix A.
Enclosed is our check in the amount of $150 for the renewal of the Certificate of Compliance.
Payment for any additional fees that may be required will be delivered upon request.
Se Model No. HN-200 shipping package developed by Hittman Nuclear 5 Develop-ment Corporation contains a number of unique features which are considered to be proprietary. Attached is an affidavit delineating the areas considered to be proprietary and which requests that this information be withheld frca public disclosure, in accordance with Title 10 CFR 2.790.
It is requested that HNDC be advised if you have questions or require additional information. Cognizant technical and management personnel are available to meet with you, if desired.
Very truly yours, b
