B. H. Grier letter to W. G. Counsil dated July 2,1979, transmitting I&E Bulletin #79-14.

Gentlemen:

Millstone Nuclear Power Station, Unit No. 2 Response to I&E Bulletin #79-14 Reference (2) as amended by Reference (1), requested Northeast Nuclear Energy Company (NNECO) to initiate a program aimed at verifying the accuracy of input information for seismic analysis of safety-related piping.

During the outage commencing August 8,1979, NNECO took the opportunity to inspect the normally inaccessible seismic systems as required by Item 3, in Reference (1), in addition to performing the inspection required by Item 2 of the same Reference.

It is NNECO's intention to provide information on all systems inspected to date in the 60-day submittal. This resulted in a greater wo-load for both NNECO and our consultant assisting in the inspection program. as a result, NNECO expects to submit the results available for Items 2 and 3 in Reference (1) on or about September 10, 1979.

Both the Millstone Unit No. 2 NRC Resident Inspector and the NRR Project Manager have been informed of the delay.

Preliminary indications show no serious deviations in the as-built piping from the design and analysis in any of the systems inspected to date. Responses to Item 2 in Reference (1) required for Millstone Unit No.1 and the Haddam Neck Plant are being submitted within the 60-day reporting requirement.
