September 20, 1977 . l Gentlemen:

Preliminary evaluations of all Category II instrument settings and absolute trip values, conducted under the PSC program for the review of Technical Specification Setpoints as outlined in Reference 4, have been completed and are now being finalized. The analysis of unresolved Category I items is proceeding.

The PSC effort required to complete this phase of the program has far exceeded original expectations, however. Therefore, PSC is unable to meet the schedule for completing the evaluations of Category II items (Reference 1).

The schedule for completing the evaluation of Category II and III items is revised as follows:

A. Category II and unresolved Category I items will be evaluated with the intent of identifying absolute ~ trip values and instrument settings for submittal to the NRC by January 1,1980.
