Dear Mr. Denton:

wyg This letter will serve to confirm my telephone conference of August 29, 1979 with Mr. Steve Varga. I advised him that the owners of the South Texas Project are conducting a schedule and cost evaluation.

W' nile the evaluation is_not complete,_ we are presently estimating that South Texas Project Units 1 and 2 will be ready to load fuel in September of 1983 and in September of 1985, respectively.

The current estimate of cost for both units is approximately $2.4 billion.

The cost and schedule evaluation is expected to be co=pleted within about two months.

At that time we shall file appropriate updated information on thes e matters in docket STN 50-498 and STN 50-499.
