Subject:

INTERAGENCY REVIEW PROCEDURES p.d-Purcose :

To infonn the Commission of the State Depart: rent's response to NRC's letter of February 8.

Di scussion :

Mr. Pickering of the State Cepartment has for-warded the attached respense (Appendix A) to NRC's February 3 request for Executive Branch views on Coninission review deadlines for Executive Branch nuclear export activities.

For easy reference, the February 8 letter is attached at Appendix B.

In suntnary, the State Department response l

Indicates there is no need to revise the existing interagency procedures established on June 9, 1978, and that the Executive Branch agencies have no objection to the establishment of internal NRC procedures for the review of Executive Branch export cases which have maximum Ccmmissioner review periods similar to those already established for NRC export cases. The Executive Branch understands that these maximum review pericds would be used, on a case-by-case basis, for those few special cases requiring more extensive review.
