for permit to operate a Nuclear Power Station at Shoreham, New York -

Docket flo. 50-322

Dear Dr. Hendrie:

The Suffolk County Legislature is being deluged of late by residents requesting that the County change its position in the above-captioned proceed-ing from that of a neutral intervenor to an opposing intervenor, and a

-rsolution to that effect has ' een o introduced for the second time before the Legislature. This resolution will be before the Major Projects Committee of the Legislature for review at its next meeting.

In order that the Legislators may view this matter from all sides, it has been suggested that a representative of the U. S. Nuclear Regulator Commis-sion be requested to meet with the Major Projects Committee to discuss what advantages there would be, if any, if the County's intervention in the proceed-ings were changed at this time. The next regular meeting of the Committee will be on Friday, August 10,1979, at 10:00 a.m., in the Executive / Legislature Euilding, Veterans Memorial Highway, Hauppauge, N. Y. However, arrangements can be made for a representative of the Commission to meet with the Com:nittee at another time, if you so desire. Mr. Irving Like, who is the intervenor for the County in the proceedings, will also be requested to meet with the Committee at the same time.

, Thank you for your consideration in this matter. D D
