Dear Mr. Urciuolo:

This is in reference to your letter of October 17, 1978, petitioning the Commission to amend S20.202(b)(2), 10 CFR Part 20, to change the definition of radiation area.

The NRC staff, after careful consideration of your petition and public comments thereon, has concluded that adoption of the changes proposed in your petition should be denied for reasons set forth in the enclosed Federal Register Notice on PRM-20-12, without prejudice to the submission of future petitions.
